Ron and I have been working with our musician friend Paul Schelly since the late 90s / early aughts, back when we all lived in the greater Los Angeles area. Paul still lives in Southern California, but we live at least 5 hours north of him, so gathering in person is not easy! In the past 18 months or so, we’ve been talking about collaborating on songs, using audio and video technology. And, well, we’re finally doing it!
We all decided on the jazz classic, “All of Me,” which is a fun, upbeat tune with lots of room for each of us to improvise and showcase our stylistic verve.
We’ve set production deadlines and that means Ron’s and my home life gets upturned in favor of meeting our goals. It’s quite thrilling, even if it rather inconveniently leaves me half-way through chopping vegetables, or even shutting off the burner or oven while cooking dinner!
This is the creative life.
While Ron was setting up all the recording technology in my “studio” space — the piano in our living room — I decided to make this super-short video of the scene:
Not unsurprisingly at all, we ended up scratching the idea of filming me at the piano for another more expressive space! We also made several changes to Ron’s studio space. When it’s all done and beautifully edited, you’ll see why.
I promise to share it with you here.
Exciting!!💝💝
YAY for you!!!!!!!!
