On our way down the I-15, we watched the Utah terrain change, both in terrain and color. Early on, there was desert and red rocks. Here, a Juniper sighting was rare.
A few miles down the road, everything changed! We were moving into black rock territory.
Then, we went through a long, winding, downhill mountain pass. It is reminiscent of the one in Colorado that goes down to Glenwood Springs, but the terrain and colors are slightly different.
We pulled over to use the RV bathroom in Primm. The venue was Whiskey Pete’s casino and hotel. The temperature had broken into triple digits.
But we were still enjoying the beautiful blue sky!
Finally, we arrived at the Barstow/Calico KOA. Ron stayed in the truck with Nilla to keep the A/C going, while I went to the office to register. There was piped-in music and the song playing was Madonna’s “Vogue.” I started singing and dancing on my way to the desk, doing the proper moves, and I finally got the attention of the clerk. He started laughing as I mimicked Madge on the stage.
We got to our site and Ron had shore power up and running for Nilla’s air-conditioned comfort.
It was an easy night for our last phase of the mission.
In the morning, we were up and out before 9:30. We got home mid-afternoon to two raised garden beds that looked like miniature jungles of vegetables! I finally thinned and collected from the bed of kale, chard, spinach, and lettuces last night. Later today, I will tackled the zucchini bed and harvest some little red tomatoes from the back yard.
Home sweet home!
I don’t know when I will do another post, but as always, I wish you excellent health, well-being, and lots of love, joy, laughter, music, and other life-affirming creativity!💝
WELCOME HOME!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Having lived in Iowa, Nebraska, Calif, Az, MT, and Colorado, and now Idaho, I know the route you all were on very well. First time in Calico Ghost Town was on a 5th grade field trip in 1959. Fascinating place. My kids loved going to Calico back in the 80's. 28 years living in SLO County were the absolute best. Western Colorado residence for a couple years was also really awesome. Palisades grows the best peaches I've ever had in my life. I imagine it was too early in the season for you to get some tree ripe peaches when you went through there.
